Learn To Make A Bread Oven
Also called a Pizza Oven, Cob Oven or Wood Fired Oven
All this last year, we asked everyone for ideas on what we could do down here at the Brickyard. One idea was to build a bread oven for everyone to use. We have been collecting materials and finding the right people to lead a course on building one.
The date for the course will be the 1st April 2017. Jessica Perry, a skilled and experienced oven maker and chef, has agreed to come and run a whole day training event here using the materials we have gathered. The date for the course will be the 1st April 2017. The design of the oven will be large enough for communal use and it will be positioned in the centre of the site. The names of those who made it can be etched in the side if you like. We have to charge £45 per person for the course. This money is to pay Jessica and we are not putting a margin on that.
50% OFF Camping for everyone taking part. The base or “threshold” for the oven will have been made before the start of the course. A 50% off camping fees applies to anyone who wants to stay for the weekend, if they are taking part in the course. We will also provide a good lunch for all the team of students as well as tea and coffee on tap.
There are only 12 places available on the course which is £45/head
The structure of the course will consist of the following:
1. Explanation of the construction of the base
2. Laying the oven floor
3. Learn to mix cob in the correct ratios, testing for the right consistency
Break for lunch (which will be provided to the students)
4. How to correctly prepare and apply cob
5. Build the Sand Former, for the interior space of the oven.
6. Learn how to make the oven door.
7. Construct the first cob layer.
8. How to maintain and repair the oven
By the end of the course you should have all the skills required to build your own bread oven. We also hope to have provided a really great day. If the weather is bad we can work in the barn and erect a tarp.
